Course Overview
The ‘Test Techniques – Advanced Level’ workshop provides delegates with practical guidance on the application of advanced test case design techniques (and measures of test coverage), and advice on the choice of which of these techniques and measures to use. The aim is to extend the delegate’s toolset of techniques from which they can then choose most effectively. This one-day tutor-led workshop includes slides, exercises and practical work, and uses a hands-on approach based on group exercises and discussions. It is highly-interactive, allowing attendees to learn from the experience of the instructor and each other, and, owing to its interactive nature, each workshop is restricted to a maximum of 18 delegates. This workshop provides delegates with practical hands-on experience of applying static analysis and test case design techniques to example problems relating to both code and business processes, each of which is supported by model answers. The course focuses on black and white box approaches as applied to both code, decision logic and business processes, but each workshop will be tailored to the preferences of the audience on the day. All the techniques covered will conform to those defined in the new ISO/IEC/IEEE29119 Software Testing Standards and the BCS Software Component Testing Standard. Advice will also be provided on how to decide which of the techniques will be most effective for a given situation, based on both experience and the latest experimental results. The workshop is principally aimed at testers and test engineers who have already attended the Test techniques – Foundation level course who want to improve the quality and effectiveness of the tests they (or their testers) design, and who want to ensure that they are fully aware of current best industry practices.Who is it for?
Pushpa Rani Subramaniam | Software Testers | Land Register –
A very useful course. Lots of practical examples to work through and discussion to understand the techniques. Angelina’s interaction with us was excellent and was able to give us all time we needed. I enjoyed the course very much.
This was my first virtual class course and it was delivered at the right pace and gave plenty of opportunity to interact with others.
Connor James Ward | Software tester | HM Land Registry –
The course was helpful in refreshing some knowledge on certain techniques I had learned about before. Angelina was very good at explaining these so I could understand them. She was very enthusiastic about the subject as well which was reflected in how easily I was understanding different concepts.
Ali Guler | Software Test Engineer Apprentice | IBM –
I thought the course done very well in regards to expanding our knowledge of topics that we covered in the ISTQB Foundation course and took it to the next level and looked at more advanced techniques of testing. John Young was an exceptional presenter and took time to explain all the topics until we understood them clearly.
Iulia Olaru | Software Test Engineer Apprentice | IBM –
The course was excellent, really informative with a lot of practical examples. Everything was explained in great detail, I also appreciate the extra notes that John adds when he explains, they are really useful. John is an excellent facilitator/teacher, hope that I can learn from him on my future courses.
Charles Lister | Software Test Apprentice | IBM –
I felt that the course was very manageable and worked as a nice add on to the other courses.
Robert Macdonald|Software Test Apprentice|IBM –
Very good pacing of the course with good amount of breaks. Good detailed content and good trainer. _x000D_

I think to improve, it would be really helpful just to have a final slide with the definitions of some of the key words/topics and maybe summarize the main differences between similar topics (like release and iteration charts)
Luke Rogers|Software Test Engineer Apprentice|IBM –
Was very enjoyable to listen to and learn the about the Advanced Test Techniques used for identifying and understanding the different approaches to testing.
james troup|test analyst|IBM –
really good information and at a good pace answered every question we had and helped us along when needed
