Private Course: Click HereThe ISTQB Foundation AI  Tester Extension course extends the broad understanding  of testing acquired at Foundation Level to enable the role of AI Tester to be performed. 

This four-day tutor-led course includes lectures, exercises and practical work, as well as exam preparation. The examination is held on the afternoon of the last day of the course, so allowing adequate time for revision. It is fully-accredited by UKTB on behalf of ISTQB and has been rated SFIAplus level 3 by the BCS. 

About ISTQB and the ‘Certified Tester’ Scheme 

Founded in 2002, ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) is a not-for-profit association comprising 47 national boards (including the UKTB) covering 71 countries worldwide. 

ISTQB has defined the Advanced certification as part of their ‘Certified Tester’ scheme that, with over 240,000 certifications, has become the de facto world-wide standard for software testing qualifications. 

The ‘Certified Tester’ scheme: 

  • provides a set of professional qualifications widely-recognised by employers, customers and peers; 
  • enables software suppliers to hire and train certified testers and thereby gain commercial advantage over their competitors by advertising their tester recruitment and development policies; and 
  • enables comparison of testing skills across different countries, testers to move across country borders more easily, and multi-national/international projects to have a common understanding of testing issues. 

Who is it for?

The AI Tester course is suitable for those who are, or expect to be, working on projects that have AI at their heart. It is aimed at those who seek a practical application of the core software testing material covered at ISTQB Foundation level on all projects that work with AI. 

The Certified Tester AI Testing (CT-AI) qualification is aimed at people who are seeking to extend their understanding of artificial intelligence and/or deep (machine) learning, most specifically testing AI based systems and using AI to test. 

Entry Requirements

The recommended entry criteria for candidates taking the AI Tester course is as follows: 

  • Hold the ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing certificate. 

Exam

To qualify as an internationally-recognized Certified Foundation Model Based Extension Level Tester and be issued with an ISTQB® AI Foundation Extension Level Certificate, delegates must successfully pass the exam administered by the relevant National Board or Examination Provider. 

  • The examination consists of a one-hour exam with 40 multiple choice questions. 
  • It will be a ‘closed book’ examination i.e. no notes or books will be allowed into the examination room. 
  • Duration of 60 minutes (or 75 minutes for candidates taking examinations that are not in their native language). The pass mark is 65% (26 out of 40). 

Course Objectives

Individuals who hold the ISTQB® Certified Tester- AI Testing certification should be able to accomplish the following business outcomes: 

  • Understand the current state and expected trends of AI 
  • Experience the implementation and testing of a ML model and recognize where testers can best influence its quality 
  • Understand the challenges associated with testing AI-Based systems, such as their self-learning capabilities, bias, ethics, complexity, non-determinism, transparency and explainability 
  • Contribute to the test strategy for an AI-Based system 
  • Design and execute test cases for AI-based systems 
  • Recognize the special requirements for the test infrastructure to support the testing of AI-based systems 
  • Understand how AI can be used to support software testing 

In addition, Certified Model Based Testers should be able to demonstrate their skills in the following areas once they have completed the course and passed the exam:
