The ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) certification is the cornerstone of essential testing knowledge that can be applied to real-world scenarios. The ISTQB Software Testing Foundation Syllabus provides a comprehensive understanding of the terminology and concepts used in the testing domain worldwide, making it relevant for all software delivery approaches and practices, including Waterfall, Agile, DevOps, and Continuous Delivery.
This three-day intensive tutor-led istqb certification course includes exam preparation, revision and the examination a few days later. It is fully- accredited by UKITB on behalf of ISTQB and has been rated SFIAplus level 3 by the BCS The ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level is principally aimed at anyone directly involved in software testing, who needs to demonstrate practical knowledge of the fundamental concepts, such as testers, test analysts, test engineers, test leads, test consultants, test managers, user acceptance testers and software developers. This software testing course is also ideal for all those who have an interest in understanding the basic concepts of software testing, and so is additionally appropriate for project managers, quality managers, software development managers, business analysts, IT directors and management consultants. I found mock exams quite difficult and tricky (very wordy). I can see the effort to incorporate traditional and modern SDLCs, and there are many things in common but I’ve been practicing agile for many years, so I would appreciate if the foundation was also available for agile.

Slides felt overly busy though, hard to consume all the information fully when there are a hundred and one things being shown at one time. So a simplified slide deck would be personally preferred.
Homework and End of Exercise activities were also good – only problem is that the questions in the mock papers are dubbed ‘harder’ than the actual exam. This isnt necessarily bad thing as it prepares you fully for the worst case scenario – however having a fairer mix of questions set would be an improvement.

There was a large amount of information being delivered but It was all relevant to our course and my role as a Software Tester so It was a really interesting experience to be a part of. Angelina was a wonderful course leader, very welcoming and helped to explain if I got a question wrong and I really do like for the answer booklets for the practice questions that when it said the right answer, it actually explains WHY the answer is correct and WHY the others are wrong which makes it a lot easier to revise
The only thing I would want more of is more example exam questions to work through but that is personal for me and the best way that I revise, maybe a kind of “cheat sheet” for the end to help go over as well would help.

John was very good. I felt he could have asked closed questions of individuals to check understanding rather than ‘are we all ok?’ or ‘do we all understand?’ though. I found that despite it being a Foundation course, I was the minority in the group of those who were not already working as testers/similar and this severely impacted on my ability to relate to the content and grasp the concepts at the rate the course seemingly expected. The syllabus also seemed place little emphasis on laying a general, introductory-level foundation of the various types of testing, etc and instead spent a disproportionate amount of time focusing on reporting techniques that appeared hugely theoretical, somewhat antiquated and likely to only be utilised by those few in very large corporates.

It was really good, there were very hard concepts however angelina took time and care to help anybody and everybody out whilst still being on track for our course. Also her experience not only helped us understand the exam sceanrios but also helped understand us what we can expect in real life testing scenarios. Some improvements on the course content is Maybe some videos explaining certain types of concepts in context e.g. amazon company decided to build this app for X, Y, z would have been helpful and we could access that on teh PP slides in our own time. This is because the sessions are not recorded so any examples used/talked about will have disappeared from memory as theres so much content and so many examples. We also had a few technical issues so maybe a better platform for collaboration? Overall I loved the course and learning with Angelina!

I found three full days over zoom, primarily focussed on following a 260+ slide deck, very difficult to remain focussed and engaged. Half days of slides with more interaction would be my preference if I have to do a similar course online. The most valuable parts of the course were the recaps at the beginning of the day, the exercises, homework and sharing real world examples. I would have preferred more exam style questions and discussions throughout.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to address a very uncomfortable part of the course on day 2 when one candidate was quite persistent with his point regarding an answer to one of the questions. I found the candidate to be rude and disrespectful to the tutor and the group. It made me feel uncomfortable and very anxious listening to this (through my headset for at least ten minutes) that I had to walk away from my laptop and take a break from the course. This was extremely frustrating and had this been a face-to-face tutorial, I suspect it may have been handled differently. I want to thank the tutor for his composure and getting the course back on track. I just wanted to point this out to tsg as it may go unnoticed to the tutors, especially while the course remains virtual, how these sort of events can impact other peoples experience and their wellbeing on a course. Given the nature of the issue, I certainly didn’t feel comfortable raising this at the time.

However, I do think the course maybe needs an extra day of learning. We were covering a lot of terminology and concepts and were in some areas forced to go quickly through things. And we only had time for a 45 minute lunch break, which I felt could be an hour if we had another day to work with!

With all the information been well explain and useful I found it very stressful to study for 8 hours and process all the new data.
Also I would love to have more practice with exam questions and similar quizzes, since I took lots of those myself to be better prepared for exam (and also to let the course information sink properly).
I also found that trainer skipped some parts of presentation and led the course her own way, which made me feel like some course pieces are not actual and valid anymore.
To sum up I’m really satisfied with the course and would definitely recommend it to others. Maybe questions I have are just mine own misunderstandings (came from my QA experience).

My only surprise was that she didn’t have her camera on and also didn’t ask the delegates to turn theirs on as well. This makes it really hard to follow and very impersonal. We are so used to being virtual that I would expect cameras turned on as standard. Of course you can’t force delegates, however, at the very least I would expect the trainer to be on.

John was very good. I felt he could have asked closed questions of individuals to check understanding rather than ‘are we all ok?’ or ‘do we all understand?’ though. I found that despite it being a Foundation course, I was the minority in the group of those who were not already working as testers/similar and this severely impacted on my ability to relate to the content and grasp the concepts at the rate the course seemingly expected. The syllabus also seemed place little emphasis on laying a general, introductory-level foundation of the various types of testing, etc and instead spent a disproportionate amount of time focusing on reporting techniques that appeared hugely theoretical, somewhat antiquated and likely to only be utilised by those few in very large corporates.

Exam technique was extremely useful. I’m not very good at working and doing homework from PDFs so plan to print off the course work and review that way before the exam.

Angelina was amazing. Extremely knowledgeable, knew how to break down complex topics and ensured it was interactive. My only surprise was that she didn’t have her camera on and also didn’t ask the delegates to turn theirs on as well. This makes it really hard to follow and very impersonal. We are so used to being virtual that I would expect cameras turned on as standard. Of course you can’t force delegates, however, at the very least I would expect the trainer to be on.

It was an online course due to the corona lock-down. The presentation was very good and the trainer spoke very clearly and was very friendly. However, there was no interaction between the participants and the trainer. Furthermore, we could not take exercises in teams. Hence my preference is training in a class.
In my opinion, online training should be distributed over time. For example, once a week an online course and then prepare a task. The online exam also is not very comfortable. I prefer a written exam. Please in the next online exams allow the use of a notepad or sheet of paper. It’s not very convenient to write on an online notepad

The course was very interesting. However I believe that such trainings should be taught with physical presence. It was the first time I had online training, and I realize how much I missed the personal interaction with the trainer, and the communication during the lesson with my colleagues. I know this training was offered via internet due to the situation. I hope the level ISTQB level to be organised in a classroom. Rosie was of course there in order to solve our concerns and questions, but I feel it would be nice if she could see us shaking our head for a “yes” when she was asking questions. Regarding with the exams, personally I disagree with the fact that we were not allowed to have a paper. It was time consuming. Also, it would be better to have a 5-min practice in the exam environment, to see how it behaves. I had many times interruptions due to the demand to refresh the screen share.
Extra comment: In homework sample questions, in page 41 the question 55 has a typo. Instead of answer “A”, it says “D”

Angelina represents both TSG and the ISTQB exceptionally well. I am traditionally a sceptic to courses, but in 3 days I have changed that bias – primarily from the depth of knowledge Angelina imparted during the course. Not only is the course material covered comprehensively, but she delivers it in an interactive way that relates back to our own working environments. Modern testing practise may mean different things to different companies / testers, and it is clear Angelina has experience across the whole testing realm, including the real-world team dynamics which make/break the process. Three days remote could be tough work for most trainees, but the continuous flow of new information, delivered in bitesize chunks kept the momentum / enthusiasm working in the team. I feel this is not an easy task to achieve – and this presents additional value that I have not experienced on other courses / other tutors. As a final note, I feel Angelina is genuinely passionate about testing, and is therefore open to healthy debate on the topic (from challenging students like myself). For those reasons : “Excellent” rating above.
